AMC series The Walking Dead will be coming to an end after season 11 was confirmed to be the last one. While this may be disappointing to fans of the horror franchise, there is a silver lining after the American broadcaster announced there would be six extra episodes in season 10. The Walking Dead’s showrunner Angela Kang confirmed at San Diego Comic Con this year there would be an extra six episodes in season 10.
This makes season 10 the longest with previous outings averaging 16 episodes. Season 10 will, therefore, comprise of a total of 22 instalments.
Right now, there’s no release date for season 10, episode 17 beyond the new instalments coming in 2021.
The coronavirus pandemic has impacted The Walking Dead hugely with the season 11 premiere now pushed back.

Season 11 would traditionally have aired in October as part of AMC’s fall schedule but due to lockdown, the premiere has been pushed back.
In the meantime, fans will have these six new episodes to look forward to next year.
Kang previously said: “We will not be airing season 11 episodes this year as we normally would in October, but we're excited to announce an extended season 10 and there will be six extra episodes to follow the finale.”
More recently, the writer told Radio Times: “So, without getting too spoilery, I can tease that these six episodes to come, there will be some hopefully exciting twists in these stories.
