Fans of Death in Paradise have loved the stern head of the police force Commissioner Patterson ever since season one.
Over the years he has appeared in several major storylines and overseen several different head detectives.
Viewers have also been able to see a slightly softer side to him after his niece Ruby Patterson (played by Shyko Amos) was introduced to the show.
However, ahead of the return of the show for season 10, some viewers will be concerned about what the future holds for his character.

Along with the announcement confirming the start of filming, the BBC also shared some details about what will happen next.
Part of this hinted the commissioner will still be struggling with his annoyance at DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little).
But this also included a worrying hint about what is next for Patterson in the show.
The synopsis teased: “Selwyn’s frustrations with his new detective take a back seat when he finds himself in the firing line.”
