The Last Kingdom season four came to an end on earlier in 2020 and fans were gutted to see Uhtred (played by Alexander Dreymon) and Brida (Emily Cox) parting ways. Uhtred and Brida, who were both born as Saxons but were raised by Danes, had been friends since childhood and they even started a romance. Fans are keen to know why Brida turned so angry in season four, and has delved deeper into the Uhtred/Brida relationship.

Why was Brida so angry in The Last Kingdom season 4?

The Last Kingdom season four left fans torn over Brida's character as she turned into Uhtred's enemy, following a huge act of betrayal.

In the latest season, the Welsh King attacked the Danes during the Battle of Tettenhall and Brida managed to escape into the forest along with Uhtred and Cnut (Magnus Bruun).

In the forest, Uhtred told Brida her lover Cnut had been the one to initiate the death of her former husband Ragnar (Tobias Santelmann). In a fit of rage, Brida proceeded to kill Cnut.

While Brida and Uhtred were in the forest, some of the Welsh King's men discovered them and attempted to capture Brida. She begged for Uhtred to kill her, so her soul would be sent to Valhalla as she did not want to be forced into slavery.

Before now her relationship with Uhtred had been rocky, as she was not happy with his act of loyalty towards the Saxons. But Uhtred always had a place in his heart for his childhood friend and he could not bring himself to kill her.

Instead, he watched her get dragged away by the Welsh King's men and she swore she would get her revenge.

Last Kingdom explained: Was Cnut based on a real person?

She ended up joining forces with the Viking warlord Sigtryggr (Eysteinn Sigurðarson) and they initiated a siege on Winchester.

During the attack, Uhtred confronted Brida and she made an attempt to kill him, but he was able to defend himself and managed to talk her down.

He begged for her to leave the kingdom as she was pregnant with Cnut's child, and he did not want any harm to come to her or the baby. Brida was still full of anger and resentment, and she swore she would never let another man influence or control her again.

The last fans saw of Brida was when she went into labour, and she was left to give birth alone having left Uhtred behind. Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss why Brida became so angry in season four, and it is in part due to Uhtred's wavering loyalty to the Danes.

Throwra_moonwalk said: "Why was Brida so angry, who was she seeking revenge against? Ragnar died and after that she was like sad but cool... they were fighting the Saxons as usual...then what happened suddenly?

"She learns Cnut killed Ragnar. Then she was taken as a slave, not that Danes treat their slaves too well... What is her problem? Danes are plunderers and Saxons would want to defend their own land, so where the question of revenge come from exactly? Isn't it misdirected anger?"
