JOE BIDEN has a significant polling advantage over US President Donald , even in key battleground states, but an expert has warned that does not mean there is a clear winner.

Less than two weeks before the US election on November 3, Mr Biden is currently leading Mr in the national polls. Currently, the 10-poll average indicates that just over half of Americans intend to back the former Vice President, while Mr ’s support trails this by around five or six points. As former Democrat nominee discovered in 2016, though, the number of votes you win is less important than where you win them.

Most states nearly always vote the same way, meaning that in reality there are just a handful of states where both candidates stand a chance of winning.

These are the places where the election will be won and lost and are known as battleground states.

At the moment, polls in the battleground states look good for Mr Biden but according to Clifford Young, President of Ipsos Public Affairs, things can change very quickly, especially when Mr is involved.

He told Express.co.uk: "Obviously, we know that in the US it is not about the national popular vote.
