Queen Elizabeth II loaned her daughter in law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, 73, the Coronation Necklace. The piece was one of the most important in the Queen Mother's collection, surely making it sentimental to the Queen herself.

The sentimentality is increased by the fact the necklace was given to the Queen Mother by her husband, the Queen's father, King George VI in 1937.
It was given to mark their coronation as King and Queen, an event they never foresaw as it came after the abdication of King George's older brother.

Since then the Queen has loaned the gorgeous piece to Camilla, who has altered it.
The Duchess of Cornwall has shortened the necklace to 31 diamonds.
The necklace is made of old-cut diamonds, which have been usurped in popularity since by brilliant-cut diamonds.
