Meghan and Prince Harry announced nearly one year ago their intention to step back as senior royals and become financially independent from the Sovereign Grant. In their bombshell statement, shared on Instagram and on the website SussexRoyal.com, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex outlined their plans for the future - which included the possibility to live between the UK and North America.
The couple did not leave the Royal Family as senior royals on March 31 with a deal granting all the terms they had initially set out.
But they were given the go-ahead by the Queen to establish their lives abroad and, eight months after they relocated to California, they are said to be happy with their choice.

A source close to the couple claimed Meghan and Harry had dreamed for a long time to be able to become financially independent, as it would grant them more freedom.
They told the magazine: "It was always their dream to be financially independent and pay their own way."
Following the summit in Sandringham 12 months ago, where senior royals agreed on the terms of the so-called Megxit deal, the couple were filled with "excitement and anticipation" for their future projects, another source, close to the prince, added.
