‘Bags under your eyes’ is the common way to say your under-eye area is mildly swollen or puffy. This is very common as you age and the tissues around your eyes supporting the lids start to weaken, but it can also be caused by fluid retention (as you wake up or after a salty meal), lack of sleep, allergies, and smoking. Sometimes, black bags under your eyes just run in your family. Express.co.uk reveals how to get rid of black bags under your eyes and chatted to celebrity makeup artist Bryony Blake to find out how to hide black bags in the meantime.
According to the Mayo Clinic, bags under the eyes are normally fixed or reduced by home and lifestyle changes or treatments.
If you regularly don’t get enough sleep, you’re bound to have puffy eyes and dark circles - this is your body’s way of telling you to get more rest.
The first and most important step when it comes to eliminating dark circles is addressing your sleeping pattern, how much sleep you get, and whether or not that amount of sleep is enough for your body.

Skincare changes and at-home hacks might also help to reduce the bags under your eyes.
For example, you can try to rehydrate the area with eye masks and eye creams.
As you apply the products, use gentle tapping motions with your index and middle fingers to encourage blood flow to the area - circling the eyes outwards, going along the eyebrows and then inward along the cheekbones towards your nose.
You could also use a cold jade roller or gua sha to massage the area and take down some of the swelling.
Some people swear by soaking the area in damp tea bags, as the tannins in them are anti-inflammatory and help to get rid of swelling, discolouration, puffiness, dark circles and bags under the eyes.
