Around 70 guests stood with Theresa May as she sang ‘God Save The Queen’ in the piano bar of the five-star Villa Cortine Palace Hotel in Sirmione.
Mrs May and her husband Philip enjoyed a five-night stay at the upmarket hotel during a walking tour of Lombardy.Related articles
She was apparently so impressed by pianist Davide Foroni’s talents that she gave him a pair of No 10 cufflinks to say thank you.
Mr Moroni told the Sun: “When I saw her in the bar I just thought, ‘I have to play God Save The Queen’.
“As soon as the first notes started she was on her feet with her husband proudly singing along. Everyone stood.
“There was a mixture of all nationalities. The British guests sang the words as well and at the end everyone clapped. Mrs May came and thanked me and we discussed her musical tastes.
