Speaking at the Commons International Trade Committee this morning added that his department “will be ready for the UK legally leaving the EU at the end of March 2019”.

He said: “I am very keen that we get a Brexit deal with the EU, but I’m not afraid of not getting one, we need to work within those parameters”

“Our first priority is to get a good trade deal with the EU, then we can look beyond Europe”.

Mr Fox insisted that Theresa May has made it “very clear” that we want an agreement on the future relationship before we leave the EU.

He said that a no deal situation isn’t as “catastrophic” as some have been speculating, but advised the private sector develops contingency plans for a no deal scenario.

During the meeting he also revealed that he has plans for future trade agreements with South Korea, Switzerland, the US, Australia and New Zealand.
