PASnow chaos on the A1 near Peterborough, Cambs
Several sections of the busy A1 are blocked by snow or closed because of accidents in Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Co Durham, Northumberland and Scotland and police are warning motorists to avoid travelling wherever possible.
Highways bosses said the the A1(M) is closed both ways between Peterborough and Stamford due to the extreme weather conditions.
A spokesman said snow ploughs were attempting to clear the road.
Yorkshire Police said the A1(M) northbound is blocked between J59 and J61 and the southbound carriageway is blocked between J62 and J63 because of an accident.
The nearby A66 remains closed and police are advising against all non-essential travel.Related articles

Nottinghamshire Police said a multi-vehicle accident had forced the A1’s closure between the A57 and the A614.
The crash followed a number of other traffic incidents along the busy road which has been badly affected by the blizzard conditions blowing in from the east.Traffic Scotland has just announced the closure of the A1 in both directions between Grantshouse and Dunbar due to severe weather conditions and warned people against all but essential journeys.
