Your prostate cancer risk could be increased by eating these foods

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer for men, affecting as many as one in eight.

Symptoms can be pain while peeing, a loss of bladder control, or having a weaker stream of wee than usual.

The NHS says that your risk of developing prostate cancer may be increased due to factors you can’t control, such as increasing age, ethnic group and family history of the condition, and factors you can control, such as obesity, exercise and diet.

The NHS adds that there is already evidence that a diet high in calcium is linked to an increased risk of developing prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer UK has published a list of foods that could increase a man’s risk of prostate cancer.

There is already evidence of a diet high in calcium increasing your risk of developing prostate cancer.


Milk, yoghurt, cheese, and other dairy products could increase your risk of prostate cancer, according to the national charity. 

“This might be because of the calcium in dairy products or it could be something else,” they say on their website.

“We need more research to find out whether eating less calcium or fewer dairy products might help to prevent prostate cancer.”

According to the Physicians Committee for responsible medicine, research has repeatedly shown that milk is a risk factor, with one study in northern suggesting it could increased your risk by two and one-half times.

This is because milk, which normally would only be drunk in childhood, boosts hormones which encourage cancer cell growth, says the committee. By loading calcium, it can also deplete vitamin D in your bloodstream, which can add to cancer risk.
