GETTYSpeculation is rife that the Queen is about to abdicate
It has already been a momentous year for Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrated her 92nd birthday in April and welcomed her sixth great-grandchild, Prince Louis, into the world on St George’s Day.
But now bookies are offering odds of just 3/1 that the Queen will step down from the throne to make way for her eldest son Prince Charles amid speculation she is looking to scale back her duties to spend more time with her blossoming family.
Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “2018 has been, and will continue to be, a monumental year for the Royal family and whilst the Queen shows no signs of slowing down at the moment there is every chance she may choose to step down and spend more time with her family.”
The Queen swore to serve Britain for her entire life on her 21st birthday.

But speculation has been rife that she will abdicate in 2018 after she gave her firm backing to Prince Charles to replace her as Head of the Commonwealth when he becomes King.
Now into her 93rd year, the Queen could reduce her royal duties following Prince Philip’s decision to retire at the age of 96 in August last year.
