BBCMr Kwarteng had earlier lambasted Nicola Sturgeon’s quest for Scottish independence
The Brexiteer made the quip after presenter Mr Dimbleby suggested the Brexit referendum had not decided anything.
The host of the BBC flagship programme said: “It’s a bit rich saying the Brexit referendum has sorted anything for a generation, we don’t have a clue what’s involved.
“You speak about it as though it decided something.”
Mr Kwarteng immediately responded: “Well it decided one thing.”
David Dimbleby questioned: “What?”
The Tory MP for Spelthorne in Surrey brilliantly replied: “It decided we were going to leave the EU on March 29 next year.
“If for example we had voted to stay in the EU we would be talking about all sorts of different things, much like you are in Scotland and I’m sure people would be calling for another referendum.”
Mr Kwarteng had earlier lambasted Nicola Sturgeon’s quest for Scottish independence that dominated discussion on the show.
