During last night's Coronation Street, Anna Windass (played by Debbie Rush) appeared back on screen and the actress has reprised her role for the dramatic conclusion of Pat Phelan’s (Connor McIntyre) storyline.
But viewers were astonished by the character’s return, especially when fans thought she was serving an unjust five year prison sentence after being framed for pushing Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) from a ladder.
Viewers quickly took to Twitter to discuss the shocking turn of events and Debbie’s return.
One said: “How the hell did Anna get out of prison & how the heck did she know where Gary and Sarah were #corrie.”
“How did Anna make it back and get out of prison?! #Corrie,” another tweeted.
A third questioned: “Anna is out of prison? But how? And how did she know that Gary and Sarah were trapped in the Builders Yard #Corrie”
And some began to speculate how Anna had pulled off her escape.
One thought: “I’m guessing that Gary must have visited Anna in prison (which was unshown) and told her he had captured #phelan and where he was holding him..then Anna was released from prison and knew exactly where to go? #corrie @itvcorrie”
But amid the speculation, Anna’s return can be explained.
After being given a five year prison sentence, Seb and Faye set up a Free Anna Windass Now Campaign, on the basis that she was innocent.
