Heidi Montag responds after sister-in-law Stephanie Pratt brands her 'toxic' ...

Heidi Montag has spoken out about the escalating drama with sister-in-law Stephanie Pratt, calling the situation heartbreaking.

Speaking on her podcast, Make Speidi Famous Again, along with husband Spencer, 35, Heidi said 'It’s been a really hard week for me,

'I had a lot of on-Hills drama with a family member and that was very challenging and heartbreaking. I felt like there were some very below-the-belt, nasty comments that weren’t even true.'

Heidi explained that she tried to sort the situation out with Stephanie before it got out of hand but her sister-in-law ignored her messages.

'The next day I was just like, "Hey, yeah, let’s give it some time and I’d love to move forward." Then the person didn’t even message me and was, like, subtweeting me. So, it was like, "You obviously don’t want to make amends because I would’ve wrote back."'

Heidi said she thinks she's a soft target because people 'mistake kindness for weakness'.

The mother-of-one added that she's trying to avoid drama while filming The Hills: New Beginnings but had to stand up for herself after Stephanie attacked her this week.

On her podcast on Monday Stephanie blasted the couple as 'the most toxic people I've ever met' and said Heidi was a 'gold digger' who she blamed for wantonly spending her parents' money

She continued, 'You do need to have boundaries. Family, not family, friends — I don’t want my children to think it’s OK to let themselves be treated a certain way and have people say certain things about them,

'There’s no way I’m not standing up for myself and my family.'

Spencer chimed in: 'If you think you’re gonna walk on my sweet little angel, Heidi, you have something coming your way.'

Stephanie, 32, opened up about her estrangement from her brother on her podcast released Monday.

Family feud: Stephanie said 'No one knows the real Heidi. Before the new Hills, the Beginnings, my mom, my brother and I all sat down and we said, 'We will not let this ruin our family again.'

Her rant contradicted her interview from March in which she claimed that The Hills reboot had repaired her relationship with her brother.

Stephanie touched on the feud on the Pratt Cast podcast, which she hosts with The Bachelorette's Wells Adams.

The Made in Chelsea star blamed Heidi almost exclusively for the dissolution of her relationship with her brother.

'No one knows the real Heidi,' she explained. 'Before the new Hills, the Beginnings, my mom, my brother and I all sat
