announced on Monday that, nearly a year and a half after it first aired, the streaming service has altered the pivotal suicide scene in 13 Reasons Why.

The streaming service released a statement via The Reporter, and then through its own Twitter page. 

'We've heard from many young people that 13 Reasons Why encouraged them to start conversations about difficult issues like depression and suicide and get help — often for the first time,' the statement began.

'As we prepare to launch season three later this summer, we've been mindful about the ongoing debate around the show,' the statement continued.

'So on the advice of medical experts, including Dr. Christine Moutier, chief medical officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we've decided with creator Brian Yorkey and the producers to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life from season one,' the statement concluded.

The original scene featured Katherine Langford's Hannah Baker is nearly three minutes long, showing Hannah take a razor blade to her left wrist while lying in her bathtub.

The scene also features Dylan Minnette's Clay Jensen, telling his school's guidance counselor Kevin Porter (Derek Luke) what happened to Hannah, before Hannah's mother (Kate Walsh) discovers her dead in the tub.
