He may be Australia's most notorious shock jock, but those close to Kyle Sandilands insist he is a 'big softy' in real life.
Bruno Bouchet, who has worked with Kyle for 10 years, revealed on Monday that his friend is 'misunderstood' by the general public.
'He's not a bully nor a hateful man,' Bruno told Now To Love, after Kyle was forced to apologise over his most recent controversy involving a joke about the Virgin Mary.

On September 18, Kyle outraged Christian and Muslim groups by saying the Virgin Mary wasn't actually a virgin and had fallen pregnant 'behind a camel shed'.
After issuing a statement through his PR team, and apologising for a second time when confronted by paparazzi outside his Los Angeles home last week, Kyle addressed his listeners directly for the first time on Monday.
Bruno, who was formerly the executive producer of The Kyle and Jackie O Show, told Now To Love that Kyle's apology was 100 per cent genuine and wasn't forced out of him by KIIS FM management.
'I was sitting right next to Kyle as he wrote the apology on his iPad,' he said.
'He's not a bully!' Bruno, who was formerly the executive producer of The Kyle and Jackie O Show, said Kyle is 'one of the most generous, thoughtful and talented people' he has ever met
'Within hours of Kyle being alerted that people had taken offence to his comments about the Virgin Mary, he wanted to immediately issue an apology because he felt genuinely remorseful that he had upset various communities,' he added.
'[Kyle] hates it when I call him "a big softy"... [but] he's one of the most generous, thoughtful and talented people I've ever met.'
Bruno explained that Kyle shouldn't lose his job over the incident, as he only wants to entertain listeners and genuinely doesn't try to cause offence.
Speaking out: Kyle issued an apology for his controversial 'joke' about the Virgin Mary on Monday, telling listeners of The Kyle and Jackie O Show he deeply regretted
