Laura Byrne has been called out for holidaying in a bushfire-ravaged area on the New South Wales south coast. 

The 33-year-old rang in the new year in Mollymook with fiancé Matthew Johnson and their six-month-old daughter Marlie-Mae, despite authorities advising against it.

After recalling the devastating effects of the fires firsthand in an Instagram post on Thursday, the jewellery designer was met with backlash from one particular follower.

'Why did you go to begin with? The fires had already started,' they asked online.

'All for a little "break" that you could have been patient enough to go next year. We as locals have no resources now during this horrible time, and we can't help but be so annoyed that tourists would not listen to the warnings,' the user continued.

In response, Laura said she was 'truly sorry' for their situation, and in hindsight, should have left sooner.
