'I am so heart broken, but I am also deeply grateful for all the love and comfort she brought our family,' Reese continued.

'Now she’s in dog heaven where all great pets go. Chasing tennis balls, running through open fields of wild flowers and being the Queen that she is. That’s what I believe. We will always love you, Pepper.'

The tiny charcoal-colored dog had long been a fixture of the actress' Instagram page, along with her other dogs Nash and Hank.

Reese's Big Little Lies costar Laura Dern shared her condolences in the comments, writing, 'Sweetest Pepper. Such a heartbreak.'

Elizabeth Banks added, 'So sorry for your loss,' while Julianne Moore simply posted a broken heart emoji.

The writer and advice columnist Cheryl Strayed, whom Reese portrayed in 2014's Wild, wrote, 'Oh, honey. I’m so sorry. Pepper was the sweetest.'
