Billie Piper has detailed the struggles of motherhood and revealed she cried at night due to the stress of being a successful working mother.

The actress, 38, spoke candidly to Fearne Cotton on the Happy Place podcast earlier this week where she made the confessions about her home life.

She said that 'striking a balance' between working and raising children is 'unachievable' which causes her to break down. 

Billie has sons Winston, 12, and Eugene, nine, with ex Laurence Fox and two-year-old daughter Tallulah with singer Johnny Lloyd.

Billie became Rose Tyler - one of Doctor Who's companions - after the show was resurrected in 2005, following 16 years off air. 

As well as Doctor Who, her dazzling acting career, which came after her teen stint in the music business, included playing Belle in Secret Diary of a Call Girl and recently acting as the titular character in I Hate Suzie. 

Following on from her body of work, Billie has now reflected on her work life balance and the troubles she faces emotionally. 

She said: 'This idea of striking a balance is unachievable. When I am at work all day long that shows in my kids, or in my relationship with my partner...

'If I'm not at work, it shows in me. I cry at the end of every day and spend an hour in bed saying, "I'll be better tomorrow, I swear". I'm going to read my parenting manual tonight and everything will be better.'
