The Good Morning Britain host appeared on Lorraine on Tuesday - her 54th birthday - where she spoke of 'the hope' she holds for her husband, whose battle with the illness has had life-changing consequences, and how he 'wants pride'.

During her discussion with Lorraine, 61, she grew tearful when the Scottish host presented her with flowers for her birthday, to which she said: 'Thanks for everyone, you've been so wonderful, I've been so lucky'.

She also spoke of the moment she communicated with Derek about her birthday and revealed she said: ''I said, "Don't worry I'm not expecting anything, my present is you being home and I'm going to pop in and see you before I go off early to Lorraine"'.
