Love Island has been hit by more than 500 Ofcom complaints despite only having been on air for a little over two weeks.

The broadcasting watchdog regulator has confirmed to MailOnline that the popular ITV reality show – which kicked off its seventh season on June 28 – was complained about 541 times between July 6 and 12, with 267 of those complaints being logged after contestant Hugo Hammond was left out of the Line Of Booty challenge on July 8, a decision viewers hailed as 'humiliating' on Twitter.

On July 6, Ofcom received 182 complaints after Hugo's throwaway comment about not liking 'fake women' left Faye Williams and Sharon Gaffka fuming at him.

His flippant remark involved not being attracted to 'fake women' - which rubbed the two ladies - who have both had boob jobs - up the wrong way.

A further 92 complaints were made in the aftermath of July 12's episode, in which the boys had to pass the entire contents of a Sunday dinner in record time to the girls using their mouths.

The Line Of Booty challenge saw the girls dressed as sexy police officers before picking a guy of their choice to interrogate, seduce and lock in 'jail' in sizzling scenes.

None of the girls picked PE teacher Hugo, prompting viewers to say they planned to complain to Ofcom over his treatment.

Fans quickly threatened to contact the media regulator, with one writing: 'Humiliating someone on national television isn't entertaining.'

The challenge saw all the boys be picked at least once by the ladies in the fun game, including Aaron and Brad, who had recently cooled their romances with Sharon and Rachel respectively.

But Hugo could only watch on as none of the girls opted to choose him, with the contestant only joining in when conferring with the boys to pick the sexiest officer.

Taking to Twitter with their grievances, one viewer shared: 'If Hugo doesn't get picked again for another challenge WATCH me be THAT Karen that reports them to Ofcom for bullying. Why they gotta do our boy like that

'I'm ready for my mid-thirties now that I complained to Ofcom about last night's Love Island. What an outrage that was. Humiliating someone on national television isn't entertaining, it's absolutely disgusting' fumed a second.

'These girls out here embarrassing my boyfriend hugo on love island i'm gonna complain to ofcom too' ranted a third viewer.

A fourth watcher complained: 'Ofcom I want words about Hugo'

'If Hugo gets left out one more time I'm ringing Ofcom' shared another disgruntled fan.

With another adding: 'I'M CALLING OFCOM WHY HAVE THEY DONE THIS TO HUGO.'

This isn't the only time Love Island viewers have rallied around Hugo after watching an episode.

Love Island fans leapt to his defence after Sharon and Faye made him cry after he said he doesn't like 'fake women'.

The faux pas happened during a game, with Hugo revealing his biggest turn-off as: 'Fake, yeah. Personality and looks.'

Hugo's admission instantly ruffled feathers, not helped by him describing his 'perfect type' as: 'Leggy blonde. Not fake.'

That word keeps getting thrown around, doesn't it?' Faye seethed.

Realising he'd upset some of the Islanders Hugo insisted: 'I didn't mean anything malicious did I?'

Sharon fumed: 'I think I was just annoyed as a mate, I respect him enough to say to him, what you're saying is upsetting me.'

'Poor Hugo!' Hugo found himself in hot water when a throwaway comment saw Faye and Sharon fuming at him - making him cry

Hugo later explained: 'I just didn't mean to upset anyone, that's the last thing I wanted.'

He burst into tears over the upset caused, grovelling to Sharon and Faye later by the fire pit, who ended up forgiving him.

Faye and Sharon were branded bullies for their behaviour, with many pointing out that Sharon's partner Aaron listed 'arm hair' a turn off and Faye's partner Liam admitted he has no problem dating someone already in a relationship - insisting that these things were worse.

Others pointed out that Hugo has a disability, with one posting on Twitter: 'Wait I've only just realised Hugo has a literal PHYSICAL DISABILITY but he's the one upset to the point of tears bc the girls are making him feel guilty bc he doesn't like fillers??'

'Why are the girls annoyed about Hugo saying he doesn't like fakeness? It doesn't mean he doesn't necessarily like surgery. It could be the attitude that people throw out!' another
