Paralympian Dylan Alcott's sexologist girlfriend Chantelle Otten has lifted the lid on one of the most important elements of love-making.

Penning an article for Body And Soul magazine this Sunday, the Melbourne-based scientist, 30, highlighted the importance of treating sex as a playful, holistic experience.

'Pleasure is about communicating with your sexual partners, dropping into the sexual experience, being present, relaxing, trusting the person you’re with, relating to each other, and seeing sex as something beyond penetration and orgasm,' she explained.

One way to enhance the bedroom experience, according to Chantelle, is focussing on the erogenous zones - a term defining areas of the body's most sensitive areas.

While any area of the body can technically be an erogenous zone, Chantelle revealed there is one part that always reigns supreme - the brain.

'If [the brain is] not in the mood because we are struggling with being present – if we are fatigued, irritable, etc. – the brain can block the rest of our body’s ability to act upon arousal,' she wrote.
