Neil Patrick Harris has been confirmed to reprise his beloved role of Barney Stinson in upcoming episodes of Hulu's How I Met Your Father, reported Deadline.

The actor, 49, who originally played the 'serial womanizer' character for a total of nine seasons in How I Met Your Mother, made a surprise cameo appearance in the spin-off's season two premiere which aired on Tuesday.

Much to the delight of fans, Neil made a surprise appearance towards the end of the first episode of How I Met Your Father's second season.

After a one-year jump, young Sophie, played by Hilary Duff, could be seen leaving a panicked message for her mother, Lori, stating, 'I think I'm dating my dad!'

Distracted, Duff ends up crashing into the back of car. She jumps out while the other driver slowly steps out, suspense building up as the camera slowly pans up from the feet to suddenly reveal Neil casually adjusting his suit.

After a brief moment of glancing at his car, he calls out 'Dude!' just as the back bumper of his expensive Audi falls down onto the street.

Although his cameo was short, TV Line reported that the Emmy award winner will make more appearances during the course of the 20-episode second season.

During a recent interview with the publication, series creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger opened up about Neil's role in the spin-off.

'We did a creative Zoom with him to talk about what we were thinking, and that was it. He was game, which was so incredible for us. It was the best way we could imagine coming back,' Elizabeth had explained about offering the idea to Harris, adding that the actor also has 'a preexisting relationship with Hilary Duff.'
