Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik 'had a thing' years prior to their recent alleged ... trends now

Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik's rumored new romance may not have come out of nowhere, as it's now been reported that the two have history together. 

The singer, 30 - who enjoyed a secret romantic dinner date in New York with Gigi Hadid's ex boyfriend, 30, earlier this week - reportedly 'had a thing' with Zayn years prior, as per Page Six. 

The two apparently got together in 2012, when Selena's best friend Taylor Swift was dating Zayn‘s former One Direction bandmate, Harry Styles. 

'They had a thing years ago, when Taylor and Harry were dating,' a music industry source told the outlet.

'It doesn’t surprise me at all that they’re potentially together [today].' 

Taylor and Harry dated in the fall of 2012. They were first photographed in December, before splitting the next month. 

Meanwhile another source told Us Weekly that Zayn is 'definitely into' Selena, but that the duo are not 'super serious' or 'exclusive.'

'Zayn has known Selena for years and he’s definitely into her. He’s always admired her and thinks she’s an incredible person, inside and out.'

The source added, 'She’s free to see other people. However, Zayn would love to continue to see Selena and see where things go.'

Gomez and Malik were reportedly very 'comfortable together' as they enjoyed a secret romantic dinner date in New York this week. 

The pair have been at the centre of intense dating rumours of late after TikTok user Klarissa Garcia posted a viral video in which she claimed a friend of hers is a hostess at a restaurant where Zayn and Selena dined together. 

Klarissa then showed a screen-grab of her friend's WhatsApp messages claiming that she saw the pop stars kissing at the eatery. 

And now those claims are strengthened further by a US source who states that the pair entered the restaurant 'holding hands and kissing', with the duo looking very relaxed in each other's company.
