Wayne Rooney and his DC United side opened their MLS season with a deserved victory against reigning champions Atlanta United.
The hosts began well and Paul Arriola fired a shot wide of the far post. Rooney then had a sighter of his own, flashing a driven effort narrowly past the upright.
The 33-year-old collected the ball just outside the area and allowed himself one touch to open up the body before curling a powerful shot wide as the rain lashed down at Audi Field.
