Sussex are exploring alternative overseas options in anticipation of Australia's World Cup vice-captain Alex Carey receiving an Ashes call-up.
The 27-year-old is due to join up with the Sharks for their Twenty20 Blast campaign, potentially pitching him alongside the man who inflicted a wound in his chin on Thursday in England star Jofra Archer, but his form at this tournament has led the hierarchy at last year's Blast runners-up to formulate back-up plans to complement Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has scored 375 runs for Aaron Finch's team, regularly repairing faltering innings with his mix of composure and clinical ball striking.
