Johnny Wilkinson heaped praise on England's performance in the Rugby World Cup and said they must use it as a stepping stone for greater success in the future after agonisingly falling short in the final to South Africa.
England beat rugby heavyweights Australia and New Zealand during their memorable run to the final but were unable to overcome the Springboks at the last hurdle, losing 32-12.
Speaking to ITV after the game, 2003 England World Cup winner Wilkinson was keen to point out England's positive 2019 campaign and said they must now build on what they have achieved.
Johnny Wilkinson said England must use their World Cup display as a stepping stone
'This is a stepping stone for England. It has to turn into something bigger. If you win or lose it has to be a stepping stone and that next step will define what this is, said Wilkinson.
'This could be growth, improvement, development, understanding and a deeper connection to the sport.
It can be a much clearer view of what’s possible
