Tyson Fury is heading for purse bids in Mexico City on Friday night for a mandatory defence of his WBC world heavyweight title in a UK homecoming fight against Dillian Whyte.

Anthony Joshua is reverting to a rematch with surprise conqueror Oleksandr Usyk in a bid to retrieve his WBA, IBF and WBO belts.

So the saga of interminable negotiations for a series of mega-fights to find the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis is about to end.

It does so as complex talks for that tournament involving all four protagonists finally broke down on Thursday night amid suggestions that Joshua raised to £20million the ante for stepping aside from his immediate rematch with Usyk.

Under the terms of the putative agreement Joshua would have received £15m and Whyte £5.5m for waiting their turn to challenge for the undisputed title.
