Likely top-overall 2024 NFL Draft selection Caleb Williams should 'pull an Eli Manning' and refuse to play for the Chicago Bears, according to former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Griffin III believes Williams should play elsewhere because of how the Bears treated former starting quarterback Justin Fields, who they drafted No 11 overall in 2021 and just traded to the Steelers for sixth-round pick.
Griffin III is referring to the events of the 2004 NFL Draft when the Chargers had the No 1 overall choice, with then-Ole Miss quarterback Eli Manning the prohibitive favorite to be taken first.
Before the draft, Manning said he had no interest in playing for San Diego. The Chargers drafted Manning anyway, but eventually traded him during the draft to the Giants, in exchange for Phillips Rivers and several draft picks, who was taken by New York at No 4 overall.
Manning ended up winning two Super Bowls with the Giants. The Chargers still have not played in a Super Bowl since the 1994 season.
Williams has long been believed to be selected first overall in next month's NFL Draft
