Some like it hot, but men like it hotter. For it is men, not women, who are most likely to sneakily turn up the central heating at home.
New research shows the nation's men are happiest when the house is basking in 24 degrees centigrade while women prefer a slightly cooler (and cheaper) 23 degrees.
Both are above the 21 degrees recommended by experts for comfort, said boiler maker Worcester Bosch, but though the difference is slight it also raises temperatures when it comes to arguments, their survey of 2,000 adults discovered.
Seventy per cent cannot agree with their partner over just how hot they should have the heating which is why many will secretly turn up the thermostat when no one is looking.
