A teacher’s assistant at a school for children with disabilities was arrested on Thursday, after investigators say she indulged in an ‘extended’ sexual relationship with a female student at the school.
Aleida Rosario, 45, a Department of Education para-professional working at Manhattan High School, in New York City, was arrested on April 4 over the alleged relationship, which is also said to have occurred on school grounds.
Rosario was charged with three counts of criminal sex acts, pleading not guilty to all of them. She has since been released from custody without bail.
According to court documents, Rosario’s believed victim enrolled at the high-school in 2014, having been referred to the facility at the beginning of her sophomore year because of behavioral problems.

The girl’s grandmother told authorities that in the beginning Rosario acted as a ‘mother figure’ to the then 16-year-old.
But towards the summer of 2015, when the girl was 16, Rosario is said to have started flirting with the student, texting and calling her regularly as well as asking her questions about lesbian sex, court filings detail.
‘The relationship went on for an extended period of time,’ a source told the New York Daily News.
In June 2015, prosecutors say Rosario, who is married, invited the minor to stay with her overnight, picking her up from West Harlem and driving her to her home in Bogota, New Jersey.
