A reporter from A Current Affair reporter has been hit in the face with an umbrella when he tried to conduct a street interview.

Nine Network journalist Reid Butler was chasing a man whose daughter Lydia Abdelmalek has been found guilty of impersonating and stalking other women outside a Melbourne court on Tuesday.

Butler scurried behind the man in a desperate bid to get some answers about his daughter's crimes.

'Do you realise someone has taken their own life here,' Mr Butler asked the man, who remained silent.

At one point the man, who was carrying a black brolly in his right hand, opened the umbrella without realising it had hit Butler in the face.
