() A wife has spoke of her anguish after her husband 'disappeared off the face of Zante' 11 weeks ago - as she continues to search for answers.

John Tossell, 73, set off for a mountain monastery on Mount Skopos on June 17 with just 10 euros and a bottle of water.

The grandfather from Bridgend, South Wales, left his partner Gillian Griffiths at the pool - and has not been heard from since.

The couple, who have been together for 19 years, were on a last minute trip to Zante in Greece and arrived at the holiday resort on June 14.

They spent that first weekend on the island sitting by the pool, reading and eating at local restaurants.

But 11 weeks on, Mrs Griffiths has returned on her own to the couples' home in the village of Kenfig and is still desperately waiting on news of her husband.

She said their two West Highland terriers still wait at the door for him to come home, as do his grandchildren.

Mr Tossell is a keen walker and an avid history fan.

Mrs Griffiths told Wales on Sunday: 'Every holiday we went on, John went walking as he was very fit, active and loved history.

'On Monday morning [June 17], he said he was going for a walk, maybe only 30 minutes or perhaps longer, but not to worry.

'He said to take my bathers and book to the pool and that he would see me later. He took Euro 10 and a bottle of water and left at around 9.30am.'

That was the last time Mrs Griffiths saw her partner.

After he failed to return, she raised the alarm and a full-scale search was conducted by the Greek police.

Mr Tossell was last seen heading towards the monastery on Mount Skopos near the village of Argassi.

He spoke to a 45 to 55-year-old lady with blonde hair and her partner.

After 11 weeks and two major searches of the island, Mr Tossell has not been found or seen
