A diamond engagement ring thrown out with the rubbish was found after tip workers sifted through hundreds of bin bags.

Mother Jo Carter, 36, from Caldicot in South Wales, called the recycling centre in a panic after realising she had binned the £3,000 ring in a clear out.

Her husband Craig, 38, and two council workers then spent four hours trawling through rubbish bags before finding the right one.
