A mother has revealed how a bike helmet saved her two-year-old son from almost certain death after he was knocked off his bicycle by a car, his head pinned under its tyre.

The mother had been walking with her 15-month-old daughter Emily and two-year-old son Jack through Montrose, in Melbourne's east, in October 2020.

She was pushing her daughter in the pram while her son was riding his bike ahead of them. The trio were headed for the local park but decided to stop for a couple of babyccinos at a cafe along the way.

The mother detailed the horrifying moment the car struck her son as she recalled the accident on the Tiny Hearts Education Facebook page.

'The cafe we go to is set back from a service road with two driveways, one for entry and one for exit,' she wrote.
