From a permanently worried brow delivering bad Covid news to ballgowns and black-tie events - such is the stunning transformation of the life of Dr Jeannette Young.

The former chief health officer of Queensland was appointed the state's 27th Governor on November 1 by Annastacia's Palaszczuk's government, leaving her former high-profile role after 16 years to take up residence in Brisbane's palatial Government House.

Dr Young developed a national profile after she appeared alongside Ms Palaszczuk to deliver Covid-19 updates since the start of the pandemic early last year.

She gained wider notoriety in June after a press conference where she claimed the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine was unsuitable for younger Queenslanders.

'I don't want an 18-year-old in Queensland dying from a clotting illness who, if they got Covid, probably wouldn't die,' she said.

The remark was considered one of the reasons for vaccine hesitancy among eligible Queenslanders.

Australian health authorities had, at the time, restricted the vaccine's use for those aged under 50 after it was linked to extremely rare blood clots.

More recently Dr Young had repeatedly predicted that 'every Queenslander' will get the virus once the state's borders reopened.

While most saw the strategy as designed to lift Queensland's lagging vaccination rate, some people regarded the comments as fear-mongering.

But now Dr Young's earnest, public expressions of concern are behind her as she turns out in a range of glamorous outfits to attend the ballet, the opera and important corporate functions accompanied by her husband, Professor Graeme Nimmo, a respected microbiologist.
