Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead in the street in a Welsh village. 

The 56-year-old man was discovered in the historic village of Trellech, Monmouthshire on Church Road on Saturday evening following an alleged attack. 

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. 

Gwent Police were called to the scene at around 20:40 after the man was found unconscious and unresponsive.  

The road was closed for more than 12 hours following the incident, and police are now appealing for dashcam footage from drivers who may have passed by or been at the scene.
