An Australian father who was sacked over his size after moving his family 3,000km for the job has opened up about his battle with weight, sharing how he has lost 90kg in the past few years.

Hamish Griffin posted to social media about the 'heartbreak and embarrassment' of his termination just 'two hours' into a new role at the Big4 holiday park at Strahan, Tasmania, which left his family 'homeless'.

Mr Griffin claimed he had only been in the role two hours when his employer, the park owner, asked him to help move a sofa, then 'ripped' into him saying he wasn't 'physically' capable before dismissing him.

The sacking was particularly rough as Mr Griffin has been on a weight loss journey for the past eight years.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, he shared how he has dropped a whopping 90kg after realising he needed to make a change.

The birth of his beloved son Freddie, now eight, was what made him want to change.

'I acknowledge that I've been a big guy for a good part of my life, however since have a family, I've always wanted to be the best I can be for my family so 8 years ago I embarked on a weight loss journey as many Australians have,' Mr Griffin said.

'I've has great results as my friends and family will attest to. I've put my self through surgery, diet, exercise, blood, sweat and tears to lose 90kg.

'This is what hurts so much…. After feeling I'd done so well, this terrible person still told me I was too fat to be a manager.'

He claimed his new employer, the owner of Big4 Strahan Holiday Retreat, justified the decision by speculating that he wouldn't be able to mow a lawn or climb a ladder, and that any 'reasonable' person' would agree.
