A desperate search is underway for an Australian mother after she vanished in Mexico and her two-year-old daughter was found wandering the streets of Cancun.

Tahnee Shanks, 32, originally from the Whitsundays, Queensland, had been living in the Central American country with her partner Jorge Aguirre Estudillo and their two-year-old daughter Adelynn.

Ms Shanks' brother, Dan, claimed his niece was 'dumped' at a church in the Mexican tourist town late at night and was found wandering the streets.

Mr Shanks has offered a $5000 reward for his sister's safe return and has spent the last two days dealing with Mexican and Australian authorities.

'Has anyone seen my sister? She has gone missing and her daughter was dumped outside a church in Cancun,' Mr Shanks wrote in a Cancun Expats Facebook group.
