A California correctional deputy and his daughter were killed in a horrific head-on collision with a suspected drunk driver late Sunday evening.
Daniel Jacks Jr., 45, and Hannah Jacks, 19, were both fatally injured when their vehicle, a Honda Insight, was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado that had crossed the median of the roadway.
The driver of the Silverado, Scott Bales, 47, had departed from the westbound side of the highway near Gilman Springs Road and Bridge Street in Riverside County, according to local news outlets.
Bales appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, officials said.

The collision happened just northwest of San Jacinto, where Daniel and Hannah both lived.
Upon arrival at the scene, Riverside County first responders found four total victims: Bales, Daniel, Hannah, and an unidentified 45-year-old male passenger in Bales' car.
The father and daughter were both pronounced dead at the scene by officials.
After the collision, the California Highway Patrol identified Daniel and his daughter as the two fatalities, and confirmed the man's law enforcement profession.
'Daniel Jacks Jr. served as a correctional deputy for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department,' the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.
Both Bales and the 45-year-old passenger who was in the car with him were taken to the hospital after the crash.
The unidentified passenger sustained 'major injuries,' according to officials.
