Furious Texans have blasted city officials in Houston for issuing a boil water notice after power outages at a purification plant.
More than 2million residents were ordered to boil water before drinking it or washing in it after the failures at the East Water Purification Plant caused water pressure to drop.
Public schools will be closed in the state's largest city today after the announcement late Sunday, as angry homeowners slammed Texas as 'less than a third world country'.
The City of Houston posted on its social media accounts about the new notice at around 7pm last night, nearly nine hours after the outage, leaving many residents concerned they had been drinking unsafe water throughout the day.

The city said: 'A boil water notice has been issued for the City of Houston's Main Water System (TX1010013).
'Earlier today, the water pressure dropped below the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's required minimum of 20 PSI during a power outage at the East Water Purification Plant on Sunday, November 27, at 10.30am.
The public were advised to not drink any water without boiling it for two minutes and allowing it to cool, or use bottled
