Amazon has opened the doors to its colourful Australian headquarters where dogs are considered colleagues.

Head of Workplace Experience Georgia Mitchell took Daily Mail Australia on a tour of the Amazon workspace in Sydney's CBD on Tuesday.

Ms Mitchell said the office is designed to be 'fun and collaborative' but believes one feature sets it apart from other Aussie offices: employees can bring their dogs.

The dogs must meet several criteria to be allowed inside the office, including being up-to-date on their vaccinations, well-behaved and agreed to by nearby co-workers.

Approved pups are given a 'Wolf Pack' to welcome them to the team, which features a bowl, collar pendant, map of friendly spaces and access to regularly refilled snacks.

The pups have become an essential part of the office, with workers joking they often remember the dogs' names instead of each other's.

Employee Clara Kim said her pup Pommy has been coming into the office for more than six months.

'I started bringing him in as soon as the program started,' she said.

'It's nice in the middle of a busy day to look over and see your dog; it's calming.

'Even when Pommy isn't here, there's other dogs walking past and it boosts your mood.'

Annette Ambrosi said the chance to work alongside her dog Harry drew her to Amazon.

'Harry loves being around people so he's much happier here than he would be at a doggy daycare,' she said.

'There's lots of space but I always sit at the same desk so Harry knows the area. He has a bed by my feet.

'Dogs in the office is quite unique in Australia.'

Angela Buchanan believes having her dog nearby helps her keep active while in the office.

'I've been bringing Tess in once a week for about a month and a half,' she said.

'It's a nice reason to go outside during the day for a quick walk.

'It's also nice having the company when you're at your desk with a lot of work.'
