A woman was left with the mangled wreckage of a 4WD in her backyard for two weeks while waiting for her insurance to tow the vehicle.

Josephine was awoken by the sound of an allegedly drunk driver crashing through the back fence of her home in Gladstone, in Central Queensland.

'It was late at night I'd gone to bed and all of a sudden I heard these three massive explosions. So I've jumped out of bed, ran out here and saw this car in our yard,' she told A Current Affair on Monday.

It's understood the driver veered off the road - possibly due to a blown tyre - down an embankment and landed in Josephine's garden.

He has since been charged with drink driving.
