Ice work if you can get it! Brits wanted to apply for one of the remotest jobs ... trends now

Brits are being asked to apply for one of the remotest jobs on the planet - working in Antarctica's famous 'penguin Post Office'.

The shop in Port Lockroy is the southernmost Post Office in the world, surrounded by pristine wilderness and endless sheets of white snow.

The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT) is beginning its search for 'self-motivated', 'empathetic', and passionate individuals who have a taste for adventure and can withstand the constant daylight and sub-zero temperatures.

Located on the football pitch-sized Gouider Island, Base A Port Lockroy is home to a colony of Gentoo penguins - making it the perfect new home for wild animal lovers.

As the current team's season draws to a close, the charity is searching for a new team to continue the vital work of caring for the historic site from November 2024 to March 2025.

Successful candidates will be responsible for managing the museum, Post Office and gift shop, as well as conducting penguin counts to support conservation efforts.

They will also be expected to process up to 80,000 letters and postcards a year and welcome around 18,000 cruise passengers who stop by on their travels.

Applicants should possess a love for Antarctica, but also be resilient in the face of harsh conditions and a have a willingness to embrace life without modern conveniences.

Living on Goudier Island means adapting to near-constant daylight, freezing temperatures, no flushing toilet or running water - so it is not for the faint-hearted.

The application form warns people about hygiene, but the job still attracts the interest of plenty of Brits.
