An SNP stalwart has accused his own government of ‘constitutional wrangling’ amid its failure to deliver justice for victims of the Post Office scandal in Scotland.
In a fresh salvo against his party, Fergus Ewing said Scottish Ministers are attempting to manufacture a ‘political bun fight’ with the UK Government after MPs passed the landmark Horizon Bill this month.
The Bill will lead to the convictions of hundreds of sub-postmasters who were victims of the Horizon IT scandal in England and Wales being overturned.
Even though the First Minister was warned weeks in advance that the laws could not cover Scotland because of its different legal system, Humza Yousaf said he was disappointed that the laws were not UK-wide and called on Westminster politicians to ‘think again’.
He also bemoaned that a Scottish version of the laws would have to wait until the Westminster Bill had passed to ensure there was no cross-border friction.
