Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the murder of five people who were kidnapped by an armed gang at a hotel on Thursday in Manabi, Ecuador.

Authorities said the suspects abducted a total of 11 people - including children - just moments after they had checked in at the hotel on in the town of Puerto López.

The victims were shot dead execution-style and were found Friday morning on the side of road linking the municipalities of Puerto López and Santa Elena.

They have been identified as Carmen Cruz, Julexi Benítez, Anthony Benítez, Geovanny Ortiz y Víctor and Ricardo Lascano.

Police said the victims were residents of the nearby coast province of Guayas and believed they were mistakenly caught up in a local drug-trafficking dispute.
