Commuters are facing rush hour chaos at London Euston on their return to work after Easter as a major signalling fault cripples services into one of the busiest times of the day.

Passengers were left stranded after the issue impacted travel throughout the day - with it now hitting the evening rush hour and people trying to return home from work.

Hoards of commuters have gathered in Euston as they attempt to navigate the chaos, with some waiting with piles of luggage in the busy station.

Customers using Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway were left stranded at stations or stuck on trains.

National Rail warned 'major disruption' due to the problem in the Euston area would last until the end of today with cancellations and trains delayed by nearly two hours.

Trains were already set to be busier than usual today after the line between Euston and Milton Keynes was shut for four days between Good Friday and Easter Monday.

And it comes three days before an Aslef strike will result in no Avanti services this Friday - with an amended timetable running either side on Thursday and Saturday.

Avanti passenger Douglas Bagley tweeted: 'I am on the delayed 12.10pm Coventry to Euston. We are stuck at Coventry. Do you have any updates please?'

Another, Tom Faz, said: 'Four days of no trains and engineering works and you still can't get it right. P**s up and brewery come to mind. Give the franchise up to someone who gives a s**t please.'

He added that he would 'actually like to get to London at some point today' and the 'network is a joke'.
