A hero mother who was left in a wheelchair when she was mown down by a drunken hit-and-run driver after she pushed her baby girl's pram to safety can now walk her children to school again.

Becky Sharp was crossing the road with her 11-month-old daughter when scaffolder Dale Clark crashed his Toyota RAV 4 into her after a vodka binge, throwing the 37-year-old mother into the air 'like a ragdoll', before driving off and leaving her for dead.

Her daughter was miraculously unharmed after her pushchair was shoved out of the way. But Becky was left with serious brain injuries and multiple fractures to her pelvis and leg and only managed to come out of an eight-week coma in July.

She arrived at Bournemouth Crown Court in a wheelchair in October last year to see Clark, from New Milton, Hampshire, jailed for three years after he admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Now it has been revealed Becky is able to walk her two older daughters to school again after making 'incredible progress' in the last year.

She moved back home in December last year with support carers helping her with day-to-day living.

Becky will be at the finishing line at the London Marathon with her children to cheer on her husband Dan Sharp who is running in the race in her honour while raising money for Brain Research UK.

Mr Sharp, 40, had trained for the Manchester Marathon last year and was due to run it four days after Becky got hit.

He lovingly called her wife an 'inspiration' as he revealed details about her recovery.

'Becky is doing really well,' he said. 'She moved back home at the beginning of December and she has a support package in place.

'Support workers come to help her with day to day things in her recovery.

'With traumatic injuries it is a lottery so we are really lucky that all her limbs function.

'She has worked really hard with her rehab and can now walk the girls to school.

'Running a marathon is not much of a big deal compared to what she has been through.

'She is an inspiration.
