Mathieu Laine has been cleared of assaulting his ex-wife and a young child

A close friend and advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron has been cleared of assaulting his ex-wife and a young child.

Mathieu Laine, 42, was accused of attacking his Eleonore Salin and a 10-year-old boy outside his £7.7million Kensington home. 

She claimed the entrepreneur yanked her ‘forcibly’ by the arm after coming towards her shouting in aggressively.

Laine, an influential French intellectual, was also accused of pinning the child up against a wall hitting him around his legs and calling him a ‘little sh*t’.

Wearing a smart blue suit and tie, Laine was found not guilty of two counts of assault by beating after a two day trial at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court.

Judge Karim Ezzat said Ms Salin, a trained criminal lawyer, was ‘an unreliable witness’ and a ‘woman battling with the unexpected end to a relationship’.

He told Laine that it was for the crown to make the case and rely on the witnesses to prove it.
